BOS has a long and active history with MUN, regularly attending conferences at Harvard Model United Nations (2007, 2011, 2012 and 2014); Model United Nations Development Program (2009-2014) ; The Hague International Model United Nations (2013, 2014); Iberian Model United Nations conference in Lisbon (2014) over the last seven years. BOS has a MUN club as an after school activity and it is functioning since 2007. We are proud that our students successfully participate at these conferences not only as delegates but also as deputy chairs and chairs of the committees.
The Baku International Model United Nations began at Baku Oxford School (BOS) in 2007 and was simply titled Baku MUN (BMUN). As the conference grew and the number of local schools involved increased, the BOS MUN club felt a need to hold two separate conferences: one aimed at introducing local schools in Baku to the concept of MUN, and one designed to promote and develop MUN programs among the International schools. In May 2012 the BOS MUN club approved the convening of such a conference to be held in April 2013. The designation “International” was added to indicate the wider range of schools participating in the conference, and to separate the international conference from the local one, which is still called BMUN. In 2014 April Baku-Oxford School in Shamkir hosted BIMUN conference. I would say that The BIMUN Conference was a resounding success! The students and staff of BOS, BOS in Shamkir, TISA, BSB and 21st Century thoroughly enjoyed the experience! The BOS in Shamkir campus provided excellent facilities for this event and the warm hospitality of BOS in Shamkir staff and students was appreciated by all. In keeping with MUN programmes, committee and general assembly sessions focused on very relevant global issues. In addition, students enjoyed dining and dancing at Ganja’s Ramada Hotel, outdoor sports activities, a disco, and a tour to the 6th century Shamkir Castle. Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of the conference was to see how students and staff from the participating schools interacted with each other. A positive, welcoming, friendly atmosphere prevailed throughout the conference! As the host school, BOS can be very proud of the success of the conference.
